Celebrate the 12 days of Christmas at Halekulani

Christmas is a magical time, so at Halekulani, we don’t just celebrate December 25, we celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with events and activities for kids of all ages. 


The seasonal fun begins on Tuesday, December 13 at Lewers Lounge, one of the best Waikiki bars. Join us for live, holiday music from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. The next day, guests are invited to the Manager’s Cocktail Reception on Hau Terrace from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., where local musicians will play Hawaiian Christmas classics. Then on Thursday, December 15, guests can enjoy a Honolulu Hale Holiday Illumination Tour to see the decorations and lights around City Hall and the iconic 55-foot tall Christmas tree. A shuttle will depart the hotel at 5:45 p.m. and return at 7:15 p.m.


“This year, we wanted to add a more traditional family activity,” says Frank Hernandez, Chef Concierge at Halekulani, so on Friday, December 16, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Living Room, guests can participate in lei making. The next day from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Hula lessons are available with Kanoe Miller at House Without A Key. On Sunday, December 18, guests are invited to enjoy a Hawaiian “Snow Cone” by the pool, from 3:00 p.m. until as long as the “snow” lasts.


From 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19 at the Garden Terrace, our youngest guests can take part in our Visions of Sugar Plums. Kids decorate gingerbread houses and cookies created by our pastry chefs, then take home their creations. “It’s one of my favorite events every year,” Frank says. On Tuesday, December 20, from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. our resident cultural historian, Hi’inani will take guests through a special Holiday Historical Tour, sharing stories of past traditions. On Wednesday, December 21, guests can drop by SpaHalekulani from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to create their own aromatic product.


Starting from noon on Thursday, December 22, guests can take complimentary shuttles to Ala Moana Shopping Center. The shuttles run every half hour, with the last shuttle departing the shopping center at 8:00 p.m. On this same day, guests can enjoy a one-hour trolley ride to see the Honolulu City Lights. Trolleys depart the Porte Cochere at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Friday, December 23, guests are invited to drop by our Living Room from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. for homemade holiday ice cream and iced tea.


Then on Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m., Santa arrives at Gray’s Beach in front of Halekulani in an Outrigger canoe. He will attend our Children’s party, which takes place from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in our Halekulani Ballroom. Kids can have their photo taken with Santa, receive a gift, and dance to a silent disco. The adults can be part of our Waikiki beach event at Hau Terrace from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., when Santa joins our Holiday Manager’s Reception to raise a glass to the season.
