Celebrate New Year's Eve in Hawaii

Honolulu is a spectacular place to be for the New Year. Whether you plan to celebrate the arrival of 2016 at Halekulani, or in the city, choices abound.

At House Without A Key, guests can enjoy traditional hula dancers and local Hawaiian entertainment from 5:30 p.m. along with an extensive dinner buffet. Guests 21 ‘ and older can spend the evening at Halekulani’s Pool Side venue from 9:00 p.m to 1:00 a.m. On the Kawehewehe lawn, from 9:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. guests can dance in the New Year at “Swing under the Stars” with the renowned Hawaii Pops Orchestra.

Orchids restaurant offers a sumptuous five-course dinner with seatings at 8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. At our five-star restaurant, La Mer, guests can celebrate with an elegant six-course meal. Seatings are at 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Maggie Herron and a two-piece band bring contemporary jazz to Lewers Lounge from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., the Noel Okimoto Quartet will perform upbeat jazz with a Latin twist to welcome in the New Year. Our annual fireworks take place right off Gray’s Beach in front of Halekulani, so at midnight, there’s no better place to be than at our Waikiki beach hotel.

For those looking to celebrate off-property, SkyWaikiki is a new venue on Kalakaua Avenue, walking distance from Halekulani. As the name suggests, it’s a rooftop club. Their New Year’s Eve event is a masquerade party, and all guests must be 21 years of age and older. Alternatively, guests may consider chartering a private yacht with a chef and spending the evening on the water, watching the fireworks. “Our New Year’s Galas always sell out, as do events in the city. It’s the busiest time of the year, so we always encourage our guests to make reservations as early as possible,” says Frank Hernandez, Head Concierge.

On New Year’s Day, Orchids offers a festive brunch as well as Osechi, a Japanese tradition. The dish comprises a collection of items that have special meaning for the New Year. Osechi is also available on January 1 as part of the in-room dining selections.

It’s been a wonderful 2015 and from our family to yours, we wish you all the best in 2016.
