The Halekulani Legacy
Our beachfront location has welcomed people since 1883 when the original owner, Robert Lewers built a two-story house on the site of what is now our main building. The fishermen of the area would bring their canoes onto the beach in front of the property to rest.
So welcomed were they by the Lewers family that the locals named the location “house befitting heaven” or Halekulani.

At our Waikiki resort, we are rich in history, in stories and in places of interest.
As you stroll through our property, you’ll notice that the original bungalow, one of the first permanent structures on Waikiki, is now home to Orchids and La Mer restaurants. What was once a private home has evolved into one of the pre-eminent luxury hotels in Hawaii.

Halekulani Florist
Tucked in our heart of the house, is our very own hotel florist. The creative floral designers are responsible for the striking pieces that you see around the hotels at both Halekulani and Halepuna Waikiki. Schooled in the style of Sogetsu Ikebana, the team is able to create florals for every occasion including wedding and other special events and are also able to order lei for any occasion.
Sustainability & Community
Halekulani strives to support the local community through art, culture, and sustainability initiatives. Our “For You, Everything” program allows guests access to some of Oahu’s finest art and cultural venues where they can learn more about our island history and culture, and our corporate sponsorship with the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative allows guests to restore the integrity and biodiversity of Hawaii’s endemic forests.
