When stepping into the Halekulani Boutique, one of the first things that you notice are the beautiful and colorful creations of designer Kate Chan.
After a successful career in Real Estate Finance, Chan took a sabbatical and visited the Philippines, reconnecting to her roots. Inspired by the tradition, culture, and people, she decided to pursue her passion for fashion while helping others make a difference in their lives.
Kate Chan’s eco-conscious designs use responsibly sourced natural, organic, and sustainable products and are handcrafted.
Her “Charlene” purse was garnered as a top five finalist for Best Green Handbag category by the Independent Handbag designer award which is double woven by Philippine artisans and made with white buri palm fiber. The bag is fully lined and has a double wood handle. This original design provides a timeless minimalist elegant aesthetic.
The uniqueness comes from the weave of the pattern, shape, and color story. The bag was chosen amongst 1,500 submissions and named after Chan’s first retail buyer, our very own Charlene Kimura, Buyer of the Halekulani Boutique.
Her patented “Puso” charms (handwoven hanging rice cakes notably seen in the Visayan region of the Philippines) symbolize her heritage.
In addition to purses, Chan designs and creates clutches, jewelry, and accessories. Her tag line, “Luxury Redefined,” means giving back and making a difference.
